RHODE ISLAND TOWN BANS BALLOONS
A small Rhode Island town has banned balloons over fears they will harm wildlife. The town of New Shoreham on Block Island, near the state’s central coastline, voted unanimously to forbid the sale and use of balloons, citing dangers to ocean life. Balloons have often landed in the ocean and washed up on the town’s shores, causing pollution and harming animals. Anyone who breaks the new rule will face a $200 fine. Several other U.S. towns, including Provincetown and Nantucket, both in Massachusetts, have also banned balloons.
* Well, there goes New Shoreham’s title of “Most Fun City in America”.
* What happens is, the puffer fish get hold of the balloons and suck the helium, then they float right out of the ocean.
* All the birthday party clowns of New Shoreham are saying, “No balloon animals. There goes my act.”
* And don’t think you can get away with blowing up a condom, either, smart guy.
* You know what kills more fish than balloons? Fishing. But I bet they sure do a lot of THAT.
