THE RACIST KELLOGG'S CORN POP
Kellogg’s is now the target of compaints of racism in an illustration on the back of a box of Corn Pops cereal. The box shows cartoon corn pops populating a retail mall. Some pops are shopping. Other corn pops play in an arcade or splash in a fountain. Another skateboards down an escalator. But Saladin Ahmed, a writer for Marvel Comic Books, notes that there is a single corn pop, darker than the rest, working as a janitor waxing the floors. Ahmed went on Twitter Tuesday to drum up outrage and ask, “Why is literally the only brown corn pop on the whole cereal box the janitor? This is teaching kids racism.”

* Not bad eating habits. Not anthropomorphizing inaminate puffs of sugar. Racism.
* Also, the yellow-skinned corn pops are labelled as “rascally ninjas”. Asian-shaming!
* Yet no one ever talks about the violence inherent in Honey Smacks.
* Or the gay stigma of Froot Loops.
* Or the Hispanic slur of Crispix.
* Or the lack of racial diversity of Snap, Crackle & Pop.
* Come on, Kellogg’s, don’t sugarcoat it! Oh – wait. That’s all they do.
