5.6 MILLION FINGERPRINTS STOLEN
The U.S. Government’s Office of Personnel Management announced Wednesday that 5.6 million people are now estimated to have had their fingerprint information stolen. The FBI, Department of Homeland Security and Defense Department are investigating.
* My God – do you know what this means? Really – do you know what this means? What can somebody do with 5 million fingerprints?
* A mass smudging?
* The fun will start when they reassign the fingerprints to different people and then put them back.
* This means that all devices locked by fingerprints have been compromised, but I have the solution. Everybody switch to toe prints.
* Yes, it will take longer, and be stinkier, but it’ll work.
* There’s going to be about a six-week window here where 5.6 million people can commit any crime they want and claim it wasn’t them.
* If only we knew WHICH 5.6 million people.
* Sometimes I get the feeling we’re in the early days of computer security.
* Either that or the last days of civilization.
* Ironic that computer crimes leave no fingerprints.
* The U.S. Government’s Office of Personal Management? God, you can just feel the waves of bureaucracy when you say it.
* They need two things: better security and a sexier name.
