WOMAN STEALS $84,000 FROM GIRL SCOUTS

In Florida, the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office arrested 41-year-old Stephanie Person for stealing money from the Girl Scouts. Person was member services coordinator for Girl Scouts of Gulfcoast Florida. She oversaw 500 troop funds and handled banking. According to the sheriff’s office, Person was able to transfer Girl Scout money to herself using an inactive account. Investigators say five Girl Scout troops sustained losses of $84,760. The sheriff’s office said Person told them she planned to pay the money back but was unable to stop because the theft was so easy.
* And that’s the way the cookie crime crumbled.
* She thought she could just Do-Si-Do away with the money.
* At least she earned her Embezzlement badge.
* Stephanie Person … Bad person.
* She stole about as much as I spend on Thin Mints each year.
* How many boxes of cookies does $84,760 represent? A couple dozen?
* I know I’m supposed to be horrified by this but all I can think about right now is eating a cookie.
* Or an entire box of cookies – but I’d start with one.
* Wait, she planned to pay the money back? Well, that makes everything okay then.
* Who knows? She might even have kicked in a few bucks extra as a thank you.
* The Scout motto is “Be prepared” as in “Be Prepared to Be Ripped Off.”
* Florida, Florida, Florida. It’s always Florida. And even the kids there can’t get a break.
