WOMAN BUYS $200 BOX OF JUNK, GETS $60,000 WARHOL

An unidentified New Jersey woman bought a couch though Craigslist from somebody on New York City’s Lower East Side. The seller threw in a box of junk for $200. Inside the box of junk was an Andy Warhol screen print worth more than $60,000. She discovered the pricey Warhol piece when she got home. It’s a screen print of a man’s genitalia. She knew she’d come across a treasure because the work is signed on the back and stamped and numbered by the Warhol Foundation. The piece is now up for sale on auction site Paddle8 with the bidding up to $60,000. The work is part of Warhol’s “Torsos” series – pictures of people’s, uh, middle sections, which debuted at the Grand Palais in Paris in October 1977.
* Good thing she bought the couch, to faint on.
* It was, truly, a box of junk.
* She’s selling it? Why doesn’t she want to hang it so she can look at it every day?
* I think I’d rather have the picture of the tomato soup can.
* Whoever buys it will have to make sure it is well hung. I mean, hung well.
* That reminds me – on the way home I have to pick up some sausage.
* “What a sucker. I even got her to take that box of junk off my hands.”
* It’s not exactly the Declaration of Independence but 60 grand is 60 grand.
* At least part of it was swinging free.
* I say good. Anyone crazy enough to buy a used sofa off the Internet deserves to get a break in life.
