VIDEO GAME PLAYERS KEEP REVEALING CLASSIFIED MILITARY SECRETS
For some odd reason, people playing the tank-fighting video game War Thunder keep leaking classified military documents. According to the Kotaku gaming website:
– In July 2021, players got into an argument on the game’s forum about the in-game depiction of Britain’s (real) Challenger 2 Main Battle Tank. To settle the disagreement, they posted what was essentially the tank’s manual. The UK’s Ministry of Defense soon got involved.
– In October 2021, it happened again: a player got into an argument about the in-game depiction of France’s Leclerc Main Battle Tank. To settle the disagreement, they posted a part of the tank’s operation manual.
– And now again: In an attempt to get developers to change some in-game stats, a Chinese player posted an image on War Thunder’s forums showing classified military documents of some armament schematics, with one of the actual tank parts sitting on top of the paper.
* Nerds. Gotta love ’em.
* You know, there’s another way for these guys to learn what these tanks are all about: get out of your mom’s basement and enlist, you pussies.
* How long ’til these gamers start 3-D printing the tanks?
* I think this is how they lost the Death Star. Some storm trooper posted the Death Star’s entire design history, including the flaw in the reactor system, on a gamer forum during an argument, and Princess Leia picked up on it. Kaboom.
