TODAY IS …
(All days repeat annually on today’s date unless otherwise noted; days may or may not be called “National”/”International”/”World” depending on source; sources listed often have additional info. We generally do not list special days which were created by commercial companies for the purpose of marketing, or the hundreds of disease awareness listings which occur each year.)
LIMA BEAN RESPECT DAY
LOOK ALIKE DAY
The Holiday Insights website says this:
“Oh Boy! It’s Look Alike Day. Time to look like somebody else … copycat. Today’s a day to find someone you really look up to, and try to look like them. Start with the hair. Cut and style your hair, as needed, to look like the person you’ve selected to look like. Then, select items from your wardrobe (or buy some new clothes!) that your lookalike wears. Along the way, make sure to practice and copy their walk, their talk, and their facial expressions. In other words. try to be as identical to that person as possible. Who should you look like? Anyone you want. Its as simple as that. Pick an actor or actress, a singer, a politician, family member or friend. Look alike contests and parties are a great idea for today.”
NATIONAL PINEAPPLE UPSIDE-DOWN CAKE DAY
NATIONAL POT SMOKERS DAY / 4/20 / WEED DAY / NATIONAL WEED DAY
VOLUNTEER RECOGNITION DAY
The Holiday Insights website says this:
“Volunteer Recognition Day honors the legions of volunteers who dedicate themselves to causes and helping others. They are making big and small differences in the lives of millions of people all over the world. They are saving lives. They are improving lives and providing comfort. They assist people, animals, and nature. Most volunteers do not ask for recognition. They just want to help and to ‘give back’ where they can. In documenting special and unique days, this author attempts to avoid editorializing, and keeps to reporting the facts. But, I will step away from the norm when speaking to this topic. It is vital and essential that more people get involved. There are so many groups and causes that need volunteer efforts. And, the needs are so broad and urgent, that everyone can find someplace to volunteer and make a difference. Celebrate this Volunteer Recognition Day by: Thanking volunteers for their work; getting involved yourself in a volunteer activity; donating to a volunteer group.”

VIN DIESEL TO STAR IN “ROCK’ EM SOCK’ EM ROBOTS” MOVIE
The Mattel toy company’s film division is developing a movie based on Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots, the tabletop game featuring boxing plastic robots. The goal is to, literally, punch the other guy’s head off. It will be a live-action movie starring Vin Diesel, who said: “To take the classic Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em game, with Mattel as my partner, and align it with the kind of world-building, franchise-making success we have had with Universal, is truly exciting.”
* Are they sure “live action” is the right word to describe Vin Diesel’s acting?
* This kind of thing is why Vin Diesel will always be the Pepsi to Dwayne Johnson’s Coke.
* After the robots fight and one gets its head knocked off, what do they do for the other 80 minutes?
* This has ‘3-picture deal’ written all over it: “Rock ‘Em 1: You Knocked My Block Off”; “Rock ‘Em 2 Rematch: YOU Knocked MY Block Off”; and “Rock ‘Em 3: Tiebreaker”.
* Still waiting for “Magic 8 Ball – The Musical.”
AUDIO: ALICE COOPER LULLABIES
Alice Cooper’s music has been re-recorded into a lullaby album made for infants. Titled ‘Lullaby Versions Of Alice Cooper’, the new record features soothing instrumental versions of some of the legendary rocker’s biggest hits.
The track list: ‘Poison’; ‘School’s Out’; ‘No More Mr. Nice Guy’; ‘I’m Eighteen’; ‘Feed My Frankenstein’; ‘He’s Back (The Man Behind The Mask)’; ‘Billion Dollar Babies’; ‘How You Gonna See Me Now’; ‘Only Women Bleed’; ‘I Never Cry’; ‘Under My Wheels’; and ‘Welcome To My Nightmare’.
The album has been released in partnership with Twinkle Twinkle Little Rock Star, a company which creates “beautiful lullaby versions of your favorite artists”, such as Adele, The Beatles, Lady Gaga and, of course, Metallica.
* Wasn’t this a thing from back in the ’80’s? Well, I guess Alice Cooper is, too.
* You get a free box of spiders with every album purchase.
* The way this works is, if your baby won’t stop crying, you threaten to put on the Alice Cooper lullabies.
* If you need to step it up a notch, try ‘Lullaby Versions of Marilyn Manson.’
* What about Eminem and Megan Thee Stallion?

7 NON-HABITS OF HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL PEOPLE
Andrew Ferebee, a “seven-figure entrepreneur, high performance coach, and podcaster” on Quora, has interviewed more than 400 experts – many of them very wealthy – and has noticed several habits that they DON’T have. Here are the seven things that the very wealthy 1 percent don’t do:
1. They don’t watch TV for more than 60 minutes a day. The average American watches five hours of TV a day. That’s 77 days a year. Imagine how much you could accomplish with an extra 77 days added back into your year?
2. They don’t drink to excess on a regular basis. Not daily, not weekly, not monthly. Maybe occasionally.
3. They don’t spend most of their money on consumption instead of creation. Successful people spend their money on things that make them better. They spend money on their business, on their personal growth, and on their passions. Unsuccessful people feel the compulsion to buy products and things that they don’t need.
4. They don’t overeat and consume processed foods. If you are eating clean foods you will feel better, have more energy, and look younger. Unhealthy eating habits lead to all sorts of issues with confidence, depression, and long-term chronic health problems.
5. They don’t blame others for their failures. Quit complaining about how the government, your parents, your boss, and the world are all trying to screw you. Instead, focus on how you can succeed regardless of external circumstances. Other people have had it worse than you and built an incredible life.
6. They don’t gossip and waste time talking about other people. You have enough stuff going on in your own life. So stop focusing on other people and focus on yourself.
7. They don’t spend time worrying about other people’s opinions. They don’t let their family, friends, or society determine what they will do with their life or what makes them happy. They march to the beat of their own drummer and chart their own path through life.
* There. Easy peasy. Now get out there and be rich.
* If I just stop gossiping, will I get 1/7th as rich? Because I could live with that.
* They could teach this in school, and a lot more people could have a share of the wealth, but The Illuminati won’t allow it.
* When is he gonna get to the part about inheriting wealth?
* What was Number 1 again? Yeah, I don’t want to do that.
* He forgot a couple (in case you feel like going on a rant):
– They don’t care about who they exploit or how horribly they treat those under them in order to succeed. Like – overworking your employees so much, they have to pee in bottles (Jeff Bezos/Amazon, anyone who has their products made by underpaid workers in China).
– They don’t care who pays the price for their own advancement, whether it’s local communities (Walmart), individuals (cigarette companies and sports betting apps), or the planet (oil companies, chemical companies, etc etc).
– They don’t have a problem using cheating and swindling others to succeed (dishonest mortgage bankers, stockbrokers, car dealers, etc).
– They don’t care if the products that make them rich destroy people’s lives, relationships, mental health and balance, the family unit, or society as a whole (smartphones, smartphones, smartphones, all social media, Facebook, time-sucking apps, all junk food, etc etc).
U.S. NEWS
SERIAL LITTERER CAUGHT
A Lake View, New York, couple finally solved the mystery of who’s been tossing used coffee cups in their front yard every day for three years. Edward and Cheryl Patton had put a camera in a tree in front of their home, but the break in the case came when a neighbor followed a minivan and jotted down its license plate number. In the van was 76-year-old Larry Pope, who had once worked with Cheryl Patton and had had disagreements with her over union issues. Pope was charged with harassment and ticketed for littering. The Pattons said the littering has since stopped.
* That’s some A-level grudge work, I tell you what.
* Did the union disagreements involve access to the factory coffee machine?
* You’re 76, probably retired, and yet you still wake up every day just so you can buy a cup of coffee and toss it in a lady’s yard. If only all our elderly people had that kind of incentive to give their lives purpose.
* Were they afraid the guy might escalate into tossing hamburger wrappers?
* PHONE TOPIC: Have you ever gotten even with somebody over something that happened a long time ago?
INTERNATIONAL NEWS
POACHER TRAMPLED BY ELEPHANTS
A suspected rhino poacher was trampled by elephants at a South African national park on Saturday. The man was among three suspected poachers spotted by rangers at Kruger National Park. The three men ran when they were seen, and during their escape, ran into a breeding herd of elephants. They split up. One of the suspects was arrested, another escaped, while the third was later found trampled to death.
* He was the guy in the landing party wearing the red shirt.
* Flat busted.
* It’s a mash-up of Circle of Life and Instant Karma.
* It’s time the animals put their foot down.
* If you run into a breeding herd of elephants, being trampled to death is the better alternative.
* How does this work? Did the rhinos slip the elephants a couple bucks to watch their backs?
* Rangers put a stamp on the guy and slipped him into the mailbox to be sent home to his family.
ITALIAN OFFICIALS IN TROUBLE FOR EATING SONG BIRDS
A group of Italian government officials are under investigation for eating wild songbirds — including some that were rare species. Around 20 public officials from the villages of Valle Trompia and Gardone Val Trompia were in attendance at the lunch. The banquet was secretly held in a government building near the city of Brescia. Dinner included rare tiny birds such as hawfinches, red crossbills, goldfinches, siskins and bramblings. Songbirds in some parts of Europe are considered a delicacy.
* They got caught ’cause somebody tweeted.
* You get fifty or sixty of those little suckers on your plate and you’ve got yourself a meal, partner.
* Each diner received a complimentary magnifying glass and tweezers.
* How can you taste anything through all the marinara sauce?
* Thirty million pigeons in St Mark’s Square, and these guys are eating parakeets.
* They could really use a Buffalo Hot Wings franchise in Italy.

THIS DAY IN HISTORY
COVID 19 – ONE YEAR AGO:
– The last three cruise ships still afloat amid the Covid pandemic finally docked at the ports of Marseille, France; Barcelona, Spain; and Los Angeles, California.
2010 – An explosion on the Deepwater Horizon oil platform, leased by British Petroleum, killed 11 workers and began spewing an estimated 200 million gallons of crude into the Gulf of Mexico for nearly three months.
* On the anniversary of the start of the Revolutionary War? Is Britain still angry over that?
NOTED BUT NOT FIT FOR HUMOR
1999 – The Columbine High School massacre occurred in Littleton, Colorado (next to Denver) when two students opened fire killing twelve classmates, a teacher, and themselves; twenty-six others were wounded in the attack.
1990 – Pete Rose pleaded guilty to hiding $300,000 in income.
* It was a cup of casino chips in his locker.
1987 – A Japanese expedition reached the North Pole by motorcycle.
* Although we have no idea why.
1887 – The first ever car race was held in Paris. Only one competitor entered.
* Well, at least you could run back to the concession stand without worrying about missing anything.
1879 – The first mobile home, a horse drawn hut, was used in a journey from London to Cyprus.
* And then it was hit by a tornado.
THIS DAY IN MUSIC HISTORY
2002 – In the dispute over who owned the rights to Nirvana’s recordings, Dave Grohl and Kirst Novoselic asked a Seattle Court to prove that Courtney Love was mentally stable. They told the court that Love was “irrational, mercurial, self-centered, unmanageable, inconsistent and unpredictable”. They also claimed a contract was invalid because Love was “stoned” when she signed it. Eventually Love remained the primary beneficiary of the publishing rights to Kurt Cobain’s estate, which included more than 98 percent of the publishing rights to Nirvana’s music.
1996 – Pop superstar Madonna announced that she was pregnant by her personal trainer, Carlos Leon.
1990 – Janet Jackson received a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame at the start of “Janet Jackson week” in Los Angeles.
1987 – This week in 1987, the disco-rollerskating Broadway musical “Starlight Express” broke the box-office record set by “The King and I” when it set a record earning $606,081.
1981 – John Phillips of The Mamas and the Papas received a five-year jail sentence after pleading guilty to drug possession charges; the sentence was suspended after 30 days. Phillips started touring the U.S. lecturing against the dangers of taking drugs.
1961 – The FCC granted FM radio stations the right to begin broadcasting in stereo – that decision led to the “underground” radio movement, which in turn spawned commercial FM radio.
1959 – Country music legend Dolly Parton released her first single, “Puppy Love”.
1957 – Elvis Presley started an eight-week run at No.1 on the U.S. singles chart with “All Shook Up”, which was the year’s biggest single, selling over 2 million copies.
