TOWN BEING BULLIED BY TURKEYS

The town of Davis, California, is having an aggressive turkey problem. One particularly aggressive turkey, known as “Downtown Tom,” prompted several residents to call local police for help. One woman called 911 to say that Downtown Tom was circling her car, attacking if she got out, and she didn’t know what to do. The Davis City Council voted 4-1 in favor of a $20,000 trap-and-release program to relocate up to 40 aggressive wild turkeys. The city also placed signs in the downtown area giving residents tips for dealing with the aggressive fowl. Says City Wildlife Resource Specialist John McNerney: “Be the dominant species, essentially. Don’t let it intimidate you, which can be difficult for some folks.”
* You’ve got to have the giblets to stand up to those things.
* I don’t think those turkeys will be a problem in, oh, about 20 days.
* $20,000 to trap-and-release 40 turkeys? Hey, for $500 a turkey I’ll drive them out of town in my minivan.
* Bullied by turkeys? How about hiring some ostriches to rough ’em up a little?
* Be the dominant species? That shouldn’t be too hard considering we ARE the dominant species.
* They put signs up with tips on how to deal with them? Sometimes I hate city government.
* Just curious – is that lady still stuck in her car?
* It’s like that movie “Cujo,” except with poultry.
* Has she tried scaring off the turkey with a roasting pan?
* How about everyone carry a sword and if a bird gets close you cut its head off?
* I mean that’s what we did with the rest of the planet so why can’t it work in this one town?
* Either that or the town can bring in a few mountain lions.
