TEEN ACCIDENTALLY RUNS MARATHON
A Pennsylvania teenager accidentally ran all 26.2 miles of the Philadelphia Marathon because he missed a turn on his half-marathon course. Evan Megoulas runs on his high school’s cross country team in Palmyra, Pennsylvania. He set out Sunday to run the 13.1-mile half-marathon. His family was waiting for him at the finish line but became concerned when he didn’t show up. They say they gave police a photo of Evan, and officers tracked him down in the Manayunk section of the city. He told them he felt good despite missing his turn and wanted to keep running the whole distance. His time was 5:23:11.
* And I can’t get my kid to run the garbage can out to the curb.
* Must have been a tense couple seconds when he saw police running to catch up with him.
* Hey, Evan, when they say “cross country” they don’t mean literally cross the country.
* His family was simultaneously proud and embarrassed.
* That’s something most of us don’t have to worry about: accidentally running a marathon.
* This has been today’s marathon wrong-turn story of the week.
* Don’t knock it. Last time we had one of these stories, the course was marked wrong.
* They’re still out there running.
