TEACHER HAS 7TH GRADERS DRAW MUHAMMAD

A California school district is now banning the drawing of religious figures after a class assignment in which students were directed to draw the Islamic prophet Muhammad. The task was part of a 7th-grade history worksheet, “Vocabulary Pictures: The Rise of Islam,” at High Desert School in Acton, California. Muslims are forbidden from drawing Muhammad. Islamic terrorist groups have killed people for doing so. Melinda Van Stone said she complained to the school when her 12-year-old son brought the assignment home in October. “It’s not appropriate to have our children go to school and learn how to insult a religious group,” Van Stone said. High Desert School Principal Lynn David said the worksheet was not part of a textbook. David also said Van Stone was the only parent to complain about the assignment.
* For their next assignment, the teacher had the kids all draw targets on each other’s backs.
* Maybe we shouldn’t publicize this story or the name of the school. Oops, too late.
* They didn’t give the name of the teacher responsible so look for the principal to be kidnapped by Thursday.
* If only Christians had these same restrictions we wouldn’t have those pictures of God and Jesus where they eyes follow you wherever you go.
* Here’s the real issue: why are 7th graders still being asked to draw pictures as part of school work?
* We need to teach more current events in school, particularly to the teachers.
* The High Desert School? They sound high all right.
* It just gives you a little taste of the fun we’d have with religion in schools.
* Vocabulary Pictures? Am I supposed to understand what that means?
* Ask the Dutch cartoonists how this story ends.
* “It’s not appropriate”? Believe me – not being appropriate is the least of the worries here.
