SPAM KING SENTENCED TO JAIL

Sanford Wallace, the self-proclaimed “spam king”, has been sentenced to 30 months in prison and ordered to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars in restitution for bombarding Facebook users. Wallace, 47, pleaded guilty in August to electronic mail fraud and to criminal contempt of court. According to the 2011 indictment, Wallace – using the aliases “David Frederix” and “Laura Frederix,” along with at least 1,500 fake Internet domain names – illegally obtained Facebook users’ account information to lure them into clicking on a link that would download their friend lists and redirect them to other websites. In just four days from November 2008 to February 2009, he flooded more than 550,000 Facebook users with more than 27 million spam messages, prosecutors said. Judge Edward J. Davila also sentenced Wallace to mental health treatment and five years of probation once he’s released. And he barred Wallace from possessing or using any computer without the permission of his probation order.
* I can only hope he gets violated as often as my computer did.
* It sounds like every victim will get about three dollars, so that’s nice.
* And well worth waiting seven years for!
* Finally a feel-good story this morning.
* I particularly hate the spam emails that I have no use for like rates on renting a Lear jet.
* Of course, for every Sanford Wallace they stop, there are 100 more waiting to take his place.
* Hey, maybe that Nigerian prince can help get this guy out of prison.
* That’s assuming they’ve gotten the Nigerian astronaut back from space by now. (In one of the all time classic spam emails, there’s a plea to send money to help return a Nigerian astronaut from space.)
