RUSSIAN NUCLEAR “DOOMSDAY PLANE” ROBBED

Police in Russia are searching for thieves who broke into the country’s top-secret jet known as the “doomsday” plane that is designed for use as a flying command post during a nuclear war. Russian media said signs of a break-in through the cargo hatch had been spotted last Friday and that 39 electronic units had been removed. The robbery raises questions about the security of sensitive military-related installations. Police gave no details about the nature of the stolen equipment except for its estimated worth – more than 1 million rubles, or about $13,600.
