OLYMPIC RUNNER PICKED UP BANNED SUBSTANCE FROM PASSIONATE KISSING
Gil Roberts, a U.S. Olympic 400m runner, was suspended from competition after his samples from a March 24 test came back positive. A small amount of the banned masking agent probenecid was found in his system. However, Roberts was able to successfully argue that kissing his girlfriend led to him unknowingly ingesting the substance. Roberts, who has never before tested positive, argued that he ingested probenecid through “frequently and passionately” kissing his girlfriend in the day(s) leading up to his March 24 test. Roberts’ girlfriend was taking a sinus infection medication from India called Moxylong which, they determined later, contained probenecid. Roberts said he could not count the number of times they kissed between 1 p.m. and the moment he left the room to be tested, and he had no idea that kissing his girlfriend could lead to his ingesting a prohibited substance. When he kissed her, he said, he “did not remember the taste of medicine in her mouth.” An arbitrator accepted Roberts’ story.
* Love conquers all.
* “Kiss me, big boy, I’ve got a raging sinus infection!”
* She was all stuffed up – with love.
* Being a relay runner, I bet there was some baton handling along with the smooching.
* Roberts will have to discuss with his girlfriend the three guys who tested positive after he did.
