MOST EXPENSIVE PLACE TO DIE: CONNECTICUT
Connecticut is now the most expensive place to die. Last week the state started sending out bills to unsuspecting relatives of recently deceased for as much as $1 million, because of a new probate fee structure that doubled the assessment rate and eliminated a $12,500 cap, making it punitively expensive to die as one of the state’s residents. Will and estate attorneys say the state is now requiring its wealthiest residents to fund its probate court system, after budget cuts pulled all funding. The new fees are the highest in the nation, and were effective July 1 – and retroactive for anyone who passed away as of January 1.
* I’ll bet those dead people wish they’d died a year earlier.
* Actually, Connecticut just wants all the old and sick people to leave.
* $1 million to die? That seems just a teensy bit excessive, doesn’t it?
* In a related story, the most likely place for the revolution to start is now Connecticut.
* So if someone you know dies in Connecticut, get the body in the trunk and head for the state line ASAP.
* Of course, the wealthiest people there will already address this and they’ll pay less than the guy on the street.
* This is going to mean a huge boost for the Cayman Islands.
