MOM AND SON TRANSITIONING TO DAD AND DAUGHTER

A mother and son from Detroit are transitioning into a dad and daughter. Corey Maison, 15, first told his parents he identified as a girl four years ago, but it was not until last year he learned that his mother also struggled with her gender identity. The pair are now leaning on each other as they transition together. “I wanted to make my parents proud of who I am, but I thought that they would not like me,” Corey said about coming out as transgender. Mom Erica, who now is named Eric Maison, said that she was emboldened by her son/daughter’s decision. She has since undergone a double mastectomy. Now Eric says he plans to stay with his husband, Les, who supports his transition. Les, a man who isn’t transitioning into anything, says, “I fell in love with the person. She was beautiful as a woman, but equally beautiful on the inside.”
