MELTING GLACIERS REVEALS DEAD BODIES ON MT EVEREST
Melting glaciers on Mount Everest are revealing the bodies of dead climbers. Everest has claimed the lives of almost 300 climbers since the first attempt to conquer the mountain in 1921, two-thirds of whom are buried in the mountain’s ice and snow. An average of four more people die each year on the mountain. Because of global warming, the dead bodies that remained buried all these years are now becoming exposed. About 10 dead bodies have been recovered from the mountain in recent years, and more and more of them are emerging now. Recovery of the bodies is very dangerous work, involving at least 10 people in a low-oxygen area known by mountaineers as the death zone.
* You would think the words “death zone” would be a deterrent.
* If the ice is melting, couldn’t they just cover the bodies with, like, white packing peanuts?
* And here you thought you were going to be encased in ice for all eternity. It should be called Mt. Hardly-Ever-Rest.
* One of the first rules of climbing Everest is “Watch where you plant your ice axe.”
* On the bright side, once all the ice is gone, they can carve in a staircase.
