IF YOU CAN’T STAND ON ONE LEG FOR 10 SECONDS, YOU’RE GONNA DIE
Scientists in Brazil say if you can’t stand on one leg for 10 seconds, you’re twice as likely to die within 10 years. A team from Clinimex Medicina do Exercicio asked participants to stand on one leg for 10 seconds without any additional support. One in five (20%) failed to pass the balance test, and the numbers of failures increased with the ages of the participants. During a monitoring period of seven years after the balance test, the proportion of deaths among those who failed the test was significantly higher: 17.5 percent of those who failed, compared to just 4.5 percent of those that passed. However… it should be noted that those who failed the balance test had poorer health – many were obese, had heart disease, or high blood pressure and too much fat in the blood.
* Maybe you should have led with that last bit of information.
* Too much fat in the blood, or as doctors call it, “gravy blood.”
* But if you CAN stand on one leg for 10 seconds, you’re also going to die, eventually. So, good study, guys!
* Following this stand-on-one-leg-and-live-longer logic, flamingos should live forever.
