HITLER, STALIN QUOTES MAKE IT INTO HIGH SCHOOL YEARBOOK

Quaker Valley High School in Leetsdale, Pennsylvania has a tradition of including quotations in the graduating class section of the high school yearbook. Somebody dropped the ball vetting the quotes this year, because they include missives from Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin and an Islamic State leader. The Hitler quote is “Words build bridges into unexplored regions.” Stalin’s statement is more menacing: “Ideas are more powerful than guns. We would not let our enemies have guns, so why would we let them have ideas?” The third quote is from Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi: “Be just: the unjust never prosper. Be valiant. Keep your word, even to your enemies.” In a statement Wednesday, Quaker Valley School District officials said: “Though the content of the quotes was reviewed thoroughly, the attributions clearly were not.”
The district won’t say if students or anyone else faces punishment for the quotes. Students can get a refund on the books, or stickers to cover up the quotes.
* Oops – the stickers are swastikas.
* Damn kids with their damn pranks.
* Make that, “USED to have a tradition of including quotes …”
* Why couldn’t they choose a quote from one of our many fine celebrities?
* I can see the inspiring words of Charlie Sheen working in this context.
* “We’re the Class of 2016 … We have tiger blood and we’re winning!”
