FIRST SPACE BILLBOARD: PEPSI

Are you ready for space billboards? A Russian company called StartRocket says it’s going to launch a cluster of what they call “cubesats” into space that will act as an “orbital billboard,” projecting enormous advertisements into the night sky. Its first client, it says, will be Pepsi which will use the system to promote an energy drink called Adrenaline Rush. Russian PepsiCo spokesperson Olga Mangova confirmed that the project is real, and says, “Orbital billboards are the revolution on the market of communications.” StartRocket plans to launch the system into orbit in 2021. A $20,000 investment will buy eight hours of advertising in the night sky.
* You can carve the Moon into a Pepsi logo for all I care. I drink Coke, and I’ll never change.
* Sorry, but if there’s anything that DOESN’T give me an Adrenaline Rush, it’s more advertising in the world.
* Who’s the president of this company? Montgomery Burns?
* Seeing the Pepsi advertising in the sky will be fun for the 750 million people who have no clean drinking water.
* How long ’til hackers change the message to “Putin Sucks”?
* The first space billboard ought to read, “Shayna, will go to prom with me?”
