FIRST AUTOMATED BURGER RESTAURANT IS ALMOST HERE
A robot-powered burger restaurant is coming to San Francisco. Robotics startup company Momentum Machines has a machine that can crank out 400 made-to-order hamburgers in an hour. It’s fully autonomous – it can slice toppings, grill a patty, and assemble and bag the burger without any help from humans. The prototype could replace two to three full-time line cooks, saving a fast-food restaurant up to $90,000 a year in training, salaries, and overhead costs. The company has now applied for a building permit in San Francisco and has a job posting on Craigslist. According to the job posting, Momentum Machines is looking for a self-motivated, conscientious applicant to take on the role of “restaurant generalist” at the restaurant. “[You will] learn to do everything that’s part of running a restaurant in San Francisco,” the ad explains. That includes taking customers’ orders, scheduling shifts, and occasionally taking out the trash and tidying up.
* You also have to have zero self-worth because you’ll be taking orders from a robot all day.
* You’ll also have to be able to tolerate unlimited Terminator jokes from the customers.
* 400 hamburgers an hour? Okay, but how are its milkshakes?
* I hope San Franciscans realize that if they patronize this place, they’re selling out their species.
* If this was a movie, the burger robot would turn evil and secretly grind up humans for the burgers.
* “How did this wedding ring get into my double-cheeseburger?”
* Isn’t taking out the trash and tidying up more than an “occasional” job in the restaurant business?
* Who cares that Kevin Durant is coming to the Bay Area when you have robots making burgers?
* To add realism the robots will speak in the voice of Al Gore.
* Get ready: Even the minimum wage jobs are leaving now.
* Hey, maybe they’ll get a robot to replace their CEO. Naaaa.
