DEATH BY KARAOKE

A Russian woman was crushed to death by six giant karaoke screens as she celebrated her 35th birthday in a nightclub. Tatiana Pokhorenko was on the dance floor at the Gallery Club in the Siberian city of Surgut in eastern Russia. Above her, a motorized circular display of six TV screens with the lyrics was rising up so everyone in the club could see them. Something gave way in the ceiling and the metal structure with the TV screens plunged 25 feet to the floor, crushing poor Tatiana. The story does not say when the tragedy happened, but last Tuesday, July 6, the club owner was charged with causing death by negligence and was given a three-year suspended prison sentence after judges took into account the club owner’s two young children, his actions to make amends to the victim’s relatives and the fact that he had admitted his guilt.
* He also took the song “I’ve Got A Crush On You” out of the karaoke machine.
* Which Russian smash hit was she singing?
* She must have been a good singer. She brought down the house.
* Her friends said that on most karaoke nights, she crushed it.
* But, like most karaoke singers, she turned out to be a bit flat.
