COLLEGES NOW INSTALLING BALL PITS
“Ball pits” are now a thing on college campuses. In an ongoing effort to coddle today’s grown snowflake children, more than a few colleges are bringing ball pits onto their campuses so the students can “de-stress”. Some schools say ball pits are a perfect “safe space” to talk about feelings and other really important and serious stuff.
– Saint Mary’s College of California will bring a ball pit to campus on Oct. 3, as part of its Mental Health Awareness and Campus of Caring Week.
– Last semester, the University of Central Florida included a ball pit as part of its Social Justice Week, to help students “have an engaging conversation about a variety of social justice topics.”
– Texas Tech University also got a ball pit, which it put in its “free speech area,” as part of its Diversity Week in March 2016. Advertising its event as “a flashback to your childhood,” the Residence Hall Organization said it offered “an opportunity to meet new people, learn new things about different cultures, all while sitting in a ball pit!”
* This is stupid. How are these kids expected to color their coloring books while sitting in a ball pit?
* In case you’re not up on your culture – and who can keep up anymore – a ball pit is a padded enclosure filled with actual little colored plastic balls you can climb around in. You’re welcome.
* Oh, and it used to be called a “ball crawl” for you linguistic majors out there.
* Of course, the colleges will refund part of your tuition for diluting the college experience like this – just kidding.
* The goal here is to prepare college kids to be ready to return to kindergarten.
* This’ll fit in nicely with next year’s reboot of Barney the Dinosaur.
* This will give students a “safe space” and if they need to get further away from everything they can always go to the library.
* The good part about installing a ball pit at a college is, it makes the Marine Corp recruiters close up shop and leave.
