CHURCH ORDERS PIZZA, TIPS DELIVERY LADY $1,000

An Ohio church congregation ordered a pizza from Domino’s during a service, then tipped the driver more than $1,000 that had been collected for the offering. The driver brought the $5.99 pizza to Sycamore Creek Church in Pickerington, Ohio, on Oct. 4. The Rev. Steve Markle brought her onstage and asked her the biggest tip she’d ever received. She said about $10. That’s when Markle told her the teaching at the church had been about generosity, so the congregation had taken up an offering for the driver. She broke into tears.
* The mood was broken, however, when somebody noticed the pizza didn’t have the bacon on it like they asked.
* Then she left and the congregation had a fistfight over who would get some of the pizza.
* Finally people respond correctly to the question “What Would Jesus Do?” If Jesus had pizza.
* Imagine the loaves and fishes as Personal Pan Pizzas and Crazy Bread.
* Great, the church announces this to the world so now she has to claim it on her taxes.
* Can’t we keep quiet and also make it a lesson about not boasting?
* I can just hear that sermon: “And now that we’ve shown this stranger such generosity, how much can you give to your church?”
* You know what’s going to be a major letdown? The next tip the driver gets.
* That could be what happens here: The tip spoils the driver to the point where she just quits.
* PHONE TOPIC: Was the church doing this for the driver, or were they just doing it to make themselves feel good?
