CHEERLEADERS FORCED TO DO SPLITS
Five employees at a high school in Denver, Colorado, are on administrative leave after videos surfaced showing several cheerleaders being forced into painful splits. Ally Wakefield, a 13-year-old incoming freshman cheerleader at East High School, can be seen in one 24-second clip being forcefully held down by four people – three teammates and newly hired cheerleading coach Ozell Williams. Wakefield is screaming “Please stop!” Wakefield’s mother claims that her daughter injured her leg as a result of what happened on the video. Another mother said her daughter quit the team after being forced into splits in the same fashion. The disturbing footage has led to five school employees being placed on administrative leave: Williams, the school’s principal, assistant principal, the assistant cheerleading coach and an attorney for Denver Public Schools.
* Make that newly FIRED cheerleading coach Ozell Williams.
* Way to take the “cheer” out of cheerleading.
* Never hire a former Cirque du Soleil contortionist coach for your cheerleading team.
* What’s more painful – being force to do the splits, or ninth grade in general?
* Those splits look more painful than the ones dividing our country.
* Look, if you compete on The Amazing Race, you should know how to drive stick. If you go on Survivor, you’d better know how to build a fire. If you go out for high school cheerleading, you’d better have the splits in your bag of tricks.
