BRIGHAM YOUNG UNIVERSITY BANS THE MAN BUN

Brigham Young University’s Idaho campus has outlawed the hairstyle known as the man-bun, where men pull their long, stringy hair into a bun on the top of the head. The school claims the man-bun goes against its Honor Code, the set of rules made to ensure that each student lives by “the dress and grooming standards consistent with the teachings of Jesus Christ.” Kevin Miyasaki, the student services and activities vice president says, “As part of the dress and grooming code, we commit to avoid extreme hairstyles. A ‘man-bun’ would be considered not consistent with this standard.” The polarizing man-bun look has many adversaries – a recent poll revealed that 27 percent of women say they flat-out hate it.
* So relax, guys – Brigham Young University’s just trying to help you get laid.
* Are you sure Jesus never wore a man-bun? I’m sure I’ve seen pictures.
* “Grooming standards consistent with the teachings of Jesus Christ.” Certainly you all remember the Sermon on Style and Fashion.
* “Blessed are the finely groomed, for they shall inherit the classy chicks.”
* I believe that’s in the Gospels According to St. Armani.
* Anything in the New Testament about hemlines?
* Mixing stripes and plaids? That’s GOT to be a sin, right?
* Imagine how weird all our paintings and statues would look if Jesus had lost his hair at the age of 19, like Patrick Stewart. (True!)
* This goes against your Honor Code? Oh, get over yourself.
* 27% of women flat out hate it? Okay, but you have to subtract the percentage who hate everything.
* They want to avoid extreme hairstyles, because if there’s one thing Idaho stands for, it’s no extremists.
* How did Jesus feel about sideburns? Muttonchops? Mustache wax? French braids? Mohawks? Skinheads? Dreadlocks?
* What if you talk to God and he personally tells you that he wants you to grow a man-bun? What then?
