BABY BORN ON SUBWAY PLATFORM
A woman gave birth in the New York City subway on Monday. A cleaning worker, Madeline Ramos, was about halfway though her overnight shift when she heard Shuping Chen, 33, go into distress at about 3:15 a.m. at the Brooklyn Bridge station in Manhattan. Ramos said, “She didn’t speak English, but then I saw that the baby was coming. It happened so fast and I had to take action.” Ramos helped the woman lie on the floor and caught the baby boy less than a minute later. She held the baby and kept the mother calm until medics came. Mom and child were taken to New York-Presbyterian Lower Manhattan Hospital, where both were listed in good condition.
* … after the disinfecting.
* Before she could leave, the new mother had to go back and put another token in the turnstile.
* And guess who was left to clean up the mess from the birth?
* The baby’s been named Stand Clear Of The Closing Doors Chen.
