AUSTRALIAN WEIGHTLIFTER TRAPPED UNDER WEIGHTS FOR 30 MINUTES

An Australian man was trapped under weights for 33 minutes while he waited for emergency services to arrive at his health club and free him. The man was working out at Snap Fitness in Spring Hill, Brisbane, Australia around 5:45 am on Thursday when he got into trouble. Firefighters did not arrive until 6:20 am to rescue him. By this point, the man was unconscious and required CPR. It took six minutes to extract the man from under the weights (* He was DOWN UNDER the barbell, eh?). He was taken to a hospital in critical condition. There were no staff at the 24-hour gym at the time and the man was helped by bystanders. A witness said he was doing a seated overhead press on a Smith machine, which is designed to allow users to lift weights without a spotter.
* But you might want to keep a cell phone handy?
* Always use a spotter, or you might end up a splatter.
* The weights were too heavy and the wait was too long.
* He went to lift weights, but ended up playing squash.
* The club had one extra dumbbell that day.
