AUDIO: TOWN REPEALS NO-DANCING ORDINANCE

The Henryetta, Oklahoma, city council on Tuesday night abolished a nearly 40-year-old law that made it illegal to dance within 500 feet of churches or schools. The ordinance was repealed by a unanimous vote in less than five minutes. Joni Insabella, who co-owns Rosie Lavon’s Marketplace, spoke out against the strange policy after she was reminded of the ordinance while planning a Valentine’s day dance at her business. She found out that her customers can’t dance because they were too close to a church. Insabella was forced to cancel the dance after the city’s Chamber of Commerce posted about it on Facebook and some residents responded angrily.
* They ought to make a movie about this. And then, they ought to remake it.
* I’m sure those nice people in Oklahoma, they’re workin’ so hard, punchin’ their card, eight hours – for what?
* Can an entire town be 6 Degrees of Kevin Bacon?
* Too bad about canceling the Valentine’s Day dance. She should have turned it into a Valentine’s Day Mannequin Challenge.
* I want to hear what happened at the dance 40 years ago that caused them to pass this law.
* Maybe the townspeople were really clumsy back then and were injuring each other on the dance floor.
* I think these are called Blue Laws, but do I look like a legal scholar?
* Some of them are sexual so I remember them by the phrase Blue Laws equal Blue Balls.
* Yes, it’s hard to imagine but this country used to be even more uptight then we are now.
* Next: Henryetta, Oklahoma considers letting people wear short pants.
