AUDIO: HOW MUCH DO YOU KNOW ABOUT YOUR CAR?
A survey of 2,000 American car owners by Cooper Tires finds how little most of us know about our cars:
– 70 percent are extremely confident they could add washer fluid to their car.
– 47 percent are extremely confident they could jump-start a car.
– 48 percent are extremely confident they could replace their windshield wipers.
– 36 percent don’t know how to fix a flat tire.
– 20 percent don’t know how to use a tire pressure gauge.
– 33 percent are extremely confident they could change their car’s oil.
– 41 percent of Americans are unable to actually identify a car’s engine when presented with an image of it.
– Over half (54 percent) of Americans feel intimidated when dealing with a car mechanic.
* And stupid. Very, very stupid.
* I can do all these things – in Grand Theft Auto.
* Otherwise, I can barely figure out how my kid’s skateboard works.
* Have you seen a brand-new 2018 car engine? It’s like something from the Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
* Meanwhile, to set the time on the digital display you have to go through 600 menus.
* Wait’ll we get the flying cars. Mechanics will be treated as gods.
