AUDIO: HAVE YOUR BODY LIQUEFIED
How do you feel about having your body liquefied after you die? A British company makes a $600,000 machine called a Resomator, which can liquefy a body in three to four hours. The British-made device uses 95% water and 5% liquid alkali to break down body tissue, leaving an inert brown, slightly alkaline liquid and porous white bones that can be ground down into a white powder. In essence, the machine uses the natural process of alkaline hydrolysis to break down the body but uses high temperatures (300° F) to rapidly accelerate the process. The machine’s manufacturers claim it is a much more environmentally friendly method of disposal than burial or cremation, and is significantly cheaper to run than a cremation oven. The machine is being used in Canada and the United States. The biggest hurdle, says the company, is making people comfortable with the idea of effectively being poured down a drain.
* Sounds like you’d need to run the garbage disposal for a few seconds, too.
* 300 degrees? Well, heck, you could do it at home in the oven!
* After they liquefy you, they pour you onto big flat cookie sheets to dry, and cut you into squares of – everybody? Soylent Green!
* “Resomator” isn’t very friendly sounding. How about The Gravy Maker?
* Mr. Rogers was wrong! (see clip below.)
