AT WHAT AGES SHOULD KIDS START DOING THINGS?
According to a survey conducted by smart home technology brand Alarm.com, these are the ages that moms think are appropriate for kids to start doing certain things on their own:
– Dress themselves – 7 years
– Use the internet (with supervision) – 9 years
– Pack their own lunch – 11 years
– Walking to the bus stop alone – 11 years
– Study independently for a test – 10-and-a-half years
– Wash and fold their own clothes – 12 years
– Own a cellphone – 12-and-a-half years
– Get their first job/earn their own money – 13 years
– Stay home alone, unsupervised – 13 years
* Wow, where’d they find so many helicopter mothers to survey? Most of this stuff is for 6-year-olds.
* This list is split between chores, and things you don’t want mom to know you already do.
* Kids should get their first job and earn their own money at age 13, and help pay for their wifi data usage the week after that.
* Funny that they can stay home alone unsupervised at age 13, but they have to be supervised at home again once they hit 15.
