FLORIDA SUPERINTENDENT ELIMINATES ELEMENTARY SCHOOL HOMEWORK
Marion County, Florida school Superintendent Heidi Maier has announced that elementary school students in her district will no longer have homework. She says she made the decision to cut traditional homework from the curriculum based on “solid research” stating that homework in elementary school doesn’t effect academic achievement and has only a slight effect on older students in terms of improving academic performance. BUT — and somebody always has a big but — in lieu of traditional homework, students will be expected to read for 20 minutes every night.
* Won’t this cut into the kids’ two hours of reading text messages?
* This sounds like the best Bart Simpson prank ever.
* Heidi Maier will now forever be known as the cool superintendent.
