AUDIO: MAN CHASES WALLET THIEF, TAKES SELFIES
A father of two, who goes by the name Cee Da-Prophet on Facebook, was on the train in Brooklyn Friday when he accidentally dropped his wallet. Another man reached underneath where he was sitting and grabbed it – and then took off. Mr. Da-Prophet remembered thinking, “That’s not happening to me today. I got stuff to do.” The thief exited the train just as the doors were closing. Da-Prophet got off at the next stop and took another train back to 7th Avenue – where the thief was still standing 15 minutes later. He grabbed the thief and started cursing at him. Then he pulled out his cell phone and started taking video. “Empty your pockets and I’ll let you go,” Cee says. “This is about to be a scene … You’re about to get arrested, bro. Look at all these people here. We making a scene today.” He started emptying the thief’s pockets and found his wallet. Da-Prophet asks the man where he’s from, to which he replies: “Africa.” Da-Prophet, who is not a small man, replies: “You’re from Africa?! You’re supposed to be able to run, bro.” After posing for photos with bystanders – with his arm around the thief’s neck – he eventually let the man go, but posted the video on Facebook, and later filed a police report, and the man who took his wallet was arrested for possession of stolen property.
