TURNPIKE TOLL THIEVES
New Jersey state police arrested two people who stuffed material into toll baskets on the Atlantic City Expressway to prevent coins from going in and then returned to steal the money. The South Jersey Transportation Authority over the summer had alerted investigators about several toll basket failures and toll shortages at the Exit 5 entrance and exit ramps. 54-year-old Angela Freeman-Poles and 57-year-old Aljah Reaves were arrested and charged with theft in the scheme.
* And now they’ll have to pay the toll.
* It was the perfect plan, other than the constant video surveillance, the immediate alarms when the coins don’t register, and the fact that they probably ended up with about 14 bucks for their efforts.
* Too lazy to collect aluminum cans off the street?
* They wanted hope and change, and it worked about as good as it did for Obama.
* What a penny-ante idea. Or quarter-ante.
* You idiots. The modern way is to hack the booths’ computers and show the money all came through.
* This is one of those stories where society wants the result out there. Otherwise every crook in America will try this.
* Another suspicious move: Once they went through the toll booths they immediately did a U-turn and went home.
* It’s official: Every last criminal angle in new Jersey has been tried and they’re down to stuff like this.
* This could have really changed the opening sequence of the Sopranos.
