SMARTWATCH SALES ARE DOWN BY MORE THAN HALF SINCE LAST YEAR

Smartwatch sales worldwide plunged 52% in the third quarter compared with the same period last year, according to a report by the market analysis company IDC. 2.7 million smartwatches were sold in the third quarter of 2016, compared with 5.6 million at the same time last year. Apple sold just 1.1 million of its Apple Watches in the quarter, compared with 3.9 million a year earlier – a 72% decline. A smartwatch is essentially a mini-computer that will need replacing every few years, and many smartwatches still lack certain features, like the ability for wearers to answer email. “It has become evident that at present smartwatches are not for everyone,” said Jitesh Ubrani, a senior research analyst.

* They call it a smartwatch because, once you realize what you paid for, you wise up real quick.
* The sad thing is, the smartwatch isn’t only smart, but self-aware, and it knows nobody wants it.
* Maybe people are just sick of constantly knowing their pulse rate.
* You know what the real problem is, right? The screens are too small for porn.
* I’m not bragging here, but I knew the smartwatch was a loser from the moment I heard about it.
* Ironically the smartwatch was dumbass.
* You’d be better off tying your smartphone to your wrist.
* On the bright side, maybe they’ll become collector’s items.
* You can’t even answer an email on them? What’s the friggin’ point then?
* Oh, I get it. Apple didn’t want smartwatch owners to email in and tell them how much their product sucks.
* PHONE TOPIC: How much use are you really getting out of your smartwatch?
