TUFTS COLLEGE WILL CALL THE COPS ON OFFENSIVE COSTUMES
Tufts University in Massachusetts has sent out a letter to their students involved in fraternities and sororities telling them to not wear anything that could offend others during Halloween celebrations – or risk getting investigated by campus police and being slapped with “serious disciplinary sanctions.” The order came in a note written by the leaders of the four Greek life councils on campus: “The costumes that people choose to wear have an effect on everyone around them whether they realize it or not. Outfits relating to tragedy, controversy, or acts of violence are also inappropriate. We need to set a precedent that people’s customs cannot and will not be our costumes.”
(full, very, very long letter here: http://media.wix.com/ugd/54d45b_9f5a1fffbccb49519ea6bdb049edeffa.pdf)
* No outfits relating to tragedy? So, no dressing like our presidential choices?
* Let’s make this simple. Males, dress like Harry Potter. Females, dress like Katniss Everdeen.
* Also acceptable: Inanimate object costumes: Chairs, packing crates, pianos …
* Offenders will be placed in a ball pit and forced to color in coloring books.
* Can’t the state just tell us what to wear?
* I mean, that’s where it’s heading, right?
* Look, I’m not looking to offend anyone but when I see a letter like this I just want to dress up as an ISIS Nazi Clown.
* Go ahead: Replace expression with repression. See how that works out for you.
