TOWN SMELLS LIKE CAT PEE

Environmental officials in North Carolina are trying to find out why the town of Wilmington smells like cat urine. More than a dozen residents alerted the state’s Department of Environmental Quality after picking up hints of the aroma during the weekend after Thanksgiving. Since then, it’s gotten worse. Brad Newland, regional supervisor of air quality at the DEQ’s Wilmington office, said they have “locked in on” several industrial plants in the area as a possible source. “I know that the catty odors have impacted downtown from time to time, and in my personal experience, the odor seems to vary,” Newland said. “Sometimes it smells like pure cat urine to me, and sometimes it smells similar but different.”
* Puma pee?
* Brad Newland must be quite the raconteur on a date. “Yes, I’d venture to say I can discriminate up to seven different strengths and tones of cat urine odors.”
* I didn’t know they had a Red Bull bottling plant in Wilmington.
* Have they tried putting out litter boxes just in case?
* This isn’t something they put in the Chamber of Commerce brochures.
* Every feral cat in North Carolina is now hanging around Wilmington looking for some action.
* It could be worse. The cats could be eating asparagus.
