ROBERT E. LEE HIGH SCHOOL CHANGES NAME TO LEE H.S.*
On Monday afternoon, Texas high school students were shocked after their high school – Robert E. Lee high school, named after the Confederate commander in the Civil War – was renamed Legacy of Educational Excellence High School, or LEE HS. The local school board voted 5-2 to rename the school after the controversies around Confederate symbols. They kept the name similar to keep the cost of the transition low, knowing they’d have to change the marquee, signs around campus, the end zone of the football field, all of the athletic uniforms, dance, cheer, and band uniforms, etc.
* They could also have changed the letters around to Ebert High School, after the famous film critic.
* Their new team name is The Fightin’ Capitulaters!
* Legacy of Educational Excellence High School. Sounds like the good ol’ days in Soviet Russia.
* Good luck fitting all those extra syllables into the school song.
* While they were at it, the School Board scrapped all American history classes as well.
