WOMAN, LOST IN WOODS, "FELT LIKE AN IDIOT"

Madeline Connelly, 23, and her dog, Mogi, were found last Wednesday after being lost in the Montana wilderness for a week. She and her dog went for a day-long hike on May 4 in Great Bear Wilderness and after going for a swim in a lake, took a wrong turn and got lost. All she had was overalls, a sweater with a hood, a T-shirt, her dog and her car keys. Connelly said, “I feel like an idiot, honestly, because it was just a huge mistake that it ended up being seven days in kind of treacherous weather conditions.” Her rescuers estimated she hiked about 10 miles each day. She said she and her dog rested for two days and slept under trees. She was reunited with her parents at Glacier National Park headquarters.|
* How do you walk 70 miles in any direction in America and not hit, at the least, a Starbucks?
* This is probably wrong to ask at this point but … was it a naked swim in the lake?
* Kudos also to that keen dog she has, too, for helping find the way home.
* A week in the woods and the dog’s thinking, “This is GREAT!”
* Plus, if you were named “Mogi”, you’d want to get lost, too.
* On the bright side, she lost 8 pounds, so there’s that.
* Makes you wonder what MacGyver would have done with overalls, a sweater, a T-shirt, and car keys. Probably build a short-wave radio.
* That’s it. I’m canceling any day-long hikes for the rest of my life.
* How bad was it? Bad. She was even wearing an “I’m an idiot!” sweatshirt.
* Then again this also reflects poorly on the bear population in the area.
* I mean what were they doing? Taking the week off?
* Use the formula I try to follow: For every trip outdoors you should spend at least ten days on the sofa.
