THE SHE SHED

Men have their Man Cave. Now, the home remodeling industry is trying to push a thing called the She Shed – a little backyard potting shed that has been cleaned up and remodeled as a place just for moms to go and do their crafting, or gardening, or secret drinking, or painting, or whatever women do when they get to be alone. Author Erika Kotite wrote a book on the movement: “She Sheds: A Room of Your Own”. “This is a place they’ve designed that is just theirs, that they can do with it whatever they want, and I think that really is a modern woman’s prerogative,” Kotite says. And now, home improvement stores like Lowe’s and Home Depot are also cashing in on the trend – offering DIY kits and even professional crews to build customized She Sheds.
