TEXAS COUPLE OWNS 79 DODGE VIPERS
A Texas couple owns 79 Dodge Vipers. Wayne and D’Ann Rauh just took delivery of numbers 78 and 79 on Friday. The couple, now retired from their oil transportation business, chose to take advantage of Dodge’s ‘1-of-1’ personalization program for the Viper. The program allows enthusiasts to add options that no other Viper will share for the same model year, including the color. In total, there are over 50 million unique build configurations to choose from. For the latest additions to their collection, the Rauhs went with a Viper GTC finished in brown and contrasted with a black stripe package, plus a purple Viper TA 2.0 with silver stripes. Other Vipers in their collection include one with an image of a Medusa across the hood, a Spider-man-themed car, another inspired by Darth Vader, and two track-only Viper ACR-X models. The Rauhs own over 100 cars total. They didn’t start collecting Vipers until 2006.
* You could feed the poor, I suppose, but this is as good a use for money as any.
* Even Jay Leno thought this was excessive.
* What’s the plan? To get all 50 million possibilities?
* The dumb part? The cars lose half their value as soon as they leave the lot.
* There are 79 Dodge Vipers of which at least 10 of them start.
* A brown Viper with a black stripe? How exciting!
* This is the car the other ones tease when everyone leaves the garage.
* The couple was in the oil transportation business and it wasn’t just a pipe dream.
* Remember these folks the next time you fill your tank and wonder where all the money’s going.
* The problem? They spend half their life at the DMV.
* Finding your car keys? Not a problem. Finding which car the keys go to? Huge problem.
* PHONE TOPIC: Do you – or someone you know – have an unusual collection?
