NAME THE COLORS
Crayola is giving the public a unique chance to name to all 16.7 million colors represented in the 24-bit color space. There are 16.7 million colors on the spectrum – nearly unlimited versions of red, orange, yellow, green, blue and indigo and violet. The site allows visitors to cast votes on entries, and if two names are suggested for the same color, the one with more votes will win out. So far, a little over a million of the 16 million colors have been named. Some of the more creative ones:
– Stomach Pain Green
– 1970’s Kitchen Green
– Oceanic Spitwad Blue
– Tainted Royal Purple
– Wine Dirt Red
– Blimey It’s Limey Green
– Swimming With Cramps Green
– I Won’t Eat That Brown
You can name a color by going to ColorNames.org. (* Check it out – it’s funny!) The name you come up with has to be descriptive; the name also can’t be offensive, and no business names.
* PHONE TOPIC: Go to the website, pick a color from the wheel (there’s only about 14 million left) and get listeners to suggest a name based on your show. Have a few backups – we tried submitting “Toenail Bruise” and it was already taken!)
