MAN TRIES TO STEAL LICENSE PLATE OFF CAR WITH THREE DEPUTIES INSIDE
In West Palm Beach, Florida, Wesley Kelley tried to steal a license plate off a Sheriff’s Office car. Worse yet, there were three detectives inside the car when he tried to steal the plate. The detectives were doing surveillance in an unmarked car when Kelley pulled up behind them. He pulled on a pair of gloves, then attempted to open the door to the patrol car, which was locked and had tinted windows, then he tried to detach the license plate. A detective popped out of the car, and a startled Kelley jumped into his car – which was stolen – and took off. He then crashed through a chain-link fence, and hid in a dumpster for 50 minutes before he was apprehended. He later said he crashed through the fence because he’d seen it in the movies and always wondered what it was like.
* Same with hiding in a dumpster, I suppose. Ah, the romance of the movies!
* There’s a reason you don’t hear the phrase, “Wesley Kelley, International Diamond Thief”.
* Dummy. He should have said, “I noticed this license plate was loose so I stopped to fix it.”
* This’ll be a fun story for when the other inmates ask him why he’s in jail.
* As an extra bonus, the suspects the detectives were watching got away.
