JOGGERS HIT BY RUNAWAY TRUCK TIRE
A Miami, Florida, woman and her fiancé were injured Monday morning when they were struck by a tractor-trailer tire while running on the Rickenbacker Causeway. A tractor-trailer traveling on the causeway lost two tires. One of the 200-pound tires bounced into a parking lot and the other bounced into the eastbound lane, striking the runners. Fernando Munoz, who is a doctor, performed CPR on Stephanie Hilzinger before she was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital in serious condition. Munoz was also taken to the hospital in stable condition. Friends described the couple as avid runners who enjoy working out together, describing Hilzinger as “always doing exercise. She’s healthy and was always walking to get where her boyfriend was.”
* Wasn’t this in “Final Destination 4”?
* This wouldn’t have happened to the joggers if they were sprinters.
* Time to rethink the whole “Let’s jog along a busy highway” idea.
* This is nature’s way of telling you to sit home on the couch.
* A big shout out to the mechanic who’s too lazy to tighten the tires.
* I guess the tractor-trailer ended up okay, except for the big scrape mark from the axle running from Florida to Tennessee.
* Don’t we have an old saying about getting hit by tires? Sure, it’s “Don’t tread on me.”
* This could be a good time to ponder how ridiculous the word “causeway” is.
* I also wouldn’t want to go to Jackson Memorial Hospital. Not after all the drugs they gave Michael.
* Okay, so we’ve made fun of the names on the periphery of the story and avoided the random cruelty of this horrible incident. You’re welcome.
