HEARSE DRIVERS FIRED FOR MAKING DONUT RUN
Two hearse drivers, assigned to transport the body of a Korean and Vietnam War veteran to his funeral on Tuesday morning, have been fired after they were witnessed stopping at a Dunkin’ Donuts mid-trip. Rob Carpenter spotted the American flag covering Lt. Col. Jesse Coleman’s coffin in the parking lot of a New Port Richey, Florida, Dunkin Donuts and took photos and video that he sent to a local group, Veteran’s Warriors, who later uploaded the images to their Facebook page. Carpenter asked one driver, “Is this really a body in here?” and he said yes, so Carpenter asked, “So you have a dead soldier in the back of your hearse and you’re stopping to get coffee?” The man didn’t say anything. Veterans Funeral Care, who had prepared the hearse, later fired the two men, both longtime employees in their 70s, for leaving the vehicle unattended.
* Now the two unemployed 70-somethings will die starving and destitute, so a happy ending all around. Thanks for caring, Rob Carpenter!
* I guess they could get jobs as Walmart greeters. Wait – that would still mean dying starving and destitute.
* It’s not like the veteran had some place to be.
* Maybe it was insensitive but then again, those donuts can be pretty good.
* Oh, they left it unattended? At least go through the drive-through next time.
* Wait … There isn’t going to be a next time, is there?
* I think the smart answer to, “Is this really a body in here?” would be, “Of course not. We’re just on our way to work.”
* Now, driving to work won’t be a big issue for them.
