FATHER FOUND NOT GUILTY OF STEALING HIS DAUGHTER'S CELL PHONE
A Texas man was found not guilty of theft on Tuesday after confiscating his daughter’s cell phone to teach her a lesson. Ronald Jackson of Grand Prairie, near Dallas, was facing a misdemeanor theft charge after he took away his then 12-year-old daughter’s iPhone 4S in September 2013, after he discovered a rude text message she had sent. The girl’s mother, Michelle Steppe, from whom Jackson is estranged, complained to police, alleging the phone belonged to her. Jackson was eventually arrested by police and forced to pay a $1,500 bond to get out of jail. “I didn’t want the police department telling me how to parent my child. It made no sense to me for them to show up and make a big deal out of something that was a small thing,” he told a Dallas TV station. “I was being a parent. You know, a child does something wrong, you teach them what’s right,” he said. On Tuesday, however, Jackson’s case was settled after a two-day trial, when the judge ordered the jury to find him not guilty, citing a lack of evidence.
* And you wonder why the courts are clogged.
* Well, at least the estranged wife succeeded in making the guy’s life miserable for awhile.
* Things are not looking good for a reconciliation.
* A 12-year-old sent a rude text message? OMG! MAJOR PARENTING EMERGENCY!!!
* Wait ’til she comes home pregnant and covered in tattoos.
* “I was being a parent. You know, a child does something wrong, you teach them what’s right.” Not in today’s America.
* Oh I get it. It sounds great to say it was the 12-year-old’s phone but the case was built on the mother saying it was the Mom’s phone. Never mind.
* Because your first reaction is to say “Every 12-year-old in America is going to have their parents put in jail!”
* “My Dad took my allowance away. Arrest him!”
* It’s still medium crazy but at least it’s not off the hook, bat-crap crazy.
* PHONE TOPIC: Would you have the guts to take away your kid’s cell phone as punishment?
