COMMUTER BEATEN UP BY SUBWAY DANCERS

In New York City last Thursday, four subway breakdancers attacked a straphanger who refused to move aside so they could perform in the middle of a Brooklyn train car. The four men, described as being in their 20s, walked onto the southbound “A” train Wednesday afternoon, asking for money and shouting at people to step aside so they could do their routine. When the 40-year-old victim, who was with his 26-year-old girlfriend, refused to move, one of the dancers punched him in the face. All four men then began punching him, and when his girlfriend tried to intervene, one of them hit her, too. The four men fled from the train when it pulled into the Euclid Avenue station. The 40-year-old man suffered cuts and bruises to his head and face.
* Roaming gangs of subway dancers. Now I’ve heard everything.
* They were breakdancers, as in “I’m’a break your face.”
* It’s almost enough to make you switch to taking a bus. Almost.
* This sounds like a scene left out of “West Side Story”.
* In New York you’re supposed to suffer for someone else’s art.
* If they really want to make money, these kids should go on the subway and say, “Give us money, or we’re going to sing a selection from ‘Cats.'”
* I picture a Rockettes chorus line all kicking the victim.
* This is why I never got into dancing. Too violent.
* This is what Footloose would look like directed by Quentin Tarantino.
* It was the southbound “A” train and things went south pretty quickly.
* Of course the 40-year-old guy felt terrible, but then he remembered he had a 26-year-old girlfriend and things evened out.
