AUDIO: GRAMPA HAD "CRASHING CAR THROUGH GARAGE DOOR" ON HIS BUCKET LIST
A 90-year-old grandfather in suburban Illinois had a particularly unique item on his bucket list. All he wanted to do was back his car through the garage door. Walter Thomas of Woodstock, Illinois, got his wish on Sunday thanks to some help from his family. “Every time I back out of the garage, I think about backing through the door,” he said. He had mentioned his wish to his granddaughter and so she got things moving. The garage, owned by a relative, was going to be torn down for a renovation project. In preparation the electric opener was disconnected and a few strategic cuts made to ensure it fell apart. Next, they got a local auto body shop to donate an SUV destined for the scrap yard. With his grandson seated beside him, at the count of three, Thomas hit the gas and the car crashed through the closed door. Family and friends had turned up to watch and let out a small cheer and plenty of laughs. “That was easy,” said Thomas afterwards. (video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1NUVvMgQM2Y)
* … as he kept on driving backwards through the house across the street.
* The mean part was when the kids said, “There you go, Grandpa. You can die now.”
* Then he showed them all what he secretly thinks about every time he picks up a meat cleaver.
* What is it about things with remote control devices that attract the elderly?
* Uh oh, next on his bucket list is to control the TV.
* Okay, everybody. Any theories where this impulse comes from?
* I see an old man going backwards trying to be young again. Why the garage? Who knows?
* I don’t know about your garage, but if you tried to drive through mine you’d need a tank.
