AUDIO: BANK ROBBER WANTED JAIL TO GET AWAY FROM WIFE; JUDGE SENTENCES TO HOME CONFINEMENT

A 71-year-old man who said he robbed a bank in Kansas City, Kansas, blamed his actions on depression. Lawrence Ripple went to the Bank of Labor last September – a block from the police station – and gave a note to a teller saying he had a gun and demanding money. After he was given money, Ripple waited for police. Ripple told the court he wrote the robbery note in front of his wife and told her he would rather be in jail than at home with her. A federal judge on Tuesday sentenced Ripple to six months of home confinement and 50 hours of community service. (Play clip below.)
