KENTUCKY DOCTOR, UNITED AIRLINES REACH SETTLEMENT

The Kentucky doctor who was dragged screaming off an overbooked United Airlines flight earlier this month has settled with the airline, his lawyers announced Thursday, saying Dr. David Dao and United reached an “amicable” settlement for an undisclosed amount. Dr. Dao’s attorney Thomas Demetrio praised United CEO Oscar Munoz, saying, “Mr. Munoz said he was going to do the right thing and he has,” said Demetrio. “In addition, United has taken full responsibility for what happened on Flight 3411, without attempting to blame others, including the City of Chicago. For this acceptance of corporate accountability, United is to be applauded.” Terms of the settlement are confidential.
* Although the way the lawyer’s gushing, it’s probably seven figures.
* Dr. Dao has just gotten bumped again – into a higher tax bracket.
* Remember when he said from the hospital that “everything hurts”? I think it just stopped hurting.
* He asks if anyone knows where he can park his new personal jet aircraft.
* Put it this way: Dr. Dao will never, ever have to return his seat to the upright position.
* “United is to be applauded”? Let’s not get carried away.
* United being United, they did charge him a $35 lawsuit settlement fee.
* Now it’s time to make the rounds of the talk shows.
* Tell the doctor to blink once for every million he got.
* No? Okay, touch your right ear if it was over 10 million.
* Ironically he can now afford to tell his patients to get lost.
* Yes, it was an amicable settlement if you consider having an entire airline by the short ones “amicable.”
